FIR Advisor

Dawn Driscoll

We’re pleased to feature Dawn Driscoll, a Forest Impact Recovery (FIR) Advisor hosted by the Nakusp and Area Development Board, with funding from ETSI-BC.

Driven by the desire to raise her family in a smaller community with plenty of recreational opportunities, Dawn moved back to her hometown of Nakusp, British Columbia after twelve years of living in Calgary.

Dawn brings an extensive background, ranging from project management in the steel manufacturing industry to experience in non-profit consultancy, specializing in board governance and strategic planning. Additionally, she is also a small business owner, operating Arrow Lakes Ready Mix alongside her husband.

“My project management and non-profit background, combined with being a small business owner gives me a unique insight into the business landscape in the area and business operations, and a thorough knowledge of policies and procedures, business plans, granting, raising funds and strategic planning for long-term success,” Dawn mentions.

Despite the Arrow Lakes region’s geographical isolation, Dawn points out that the area is witnessing a surge in business and population. She is eager to help get new businesses established and further assist existing ones in achieving growth to offer residents even more local options for goods and services

As a FIR Advisor, Dawn offers support for new business startups, particularly for those transitioning from the forest sector to entrepreneurship. She also provides education and resources on how to pivot existing businesses toward sustainability in different markets or find alternative uses for their products or skills. In addition, she is initiating an economic diversification project centered around workforce housing.

Committed to living in Nakusp for the rest of her life, Dawn’s enthusiasm for helping businesses grow and thrive is evident, as she looks forward to creating a community with a thriving small business sector that is as self-sustainable as possible.

“I love the opportunity to meet with people and hear about their passions and ideas. There are so many unique businesses and people in the area and I get the privilege of learning and interacting with them.”

Our thanks to Dawn and all the FIR Advisors for your tireless efforts on behalf of your communities. You are truly making a difference!
